According to the Japan times, Japan has  more than 100,000 family names now in use in today.   That is more than the 200 in Korea and comparable to the the few thousands in China but still behind the US which has around million surnames.

    Thank you for providing the list of last names of Japanese. Sometime when I read Japanese names I don’t know which are the family names and which are the first names
