Japanese carp in fish pond

Japanese carp are a common site in many fish ponds in Japanese gardens and shrines all over Japan. The multi colored fish also called Koi or Nishikigoi 錦鯉 are ornamental varieties of domesticated common carp. In Japanese, “koi” is a homophone for another word that means “affection” or “love”; koi are therefore symbols of love and friendship in Japan.
