Hakodate 函館市 is a fishing port city in Oshima prefecture, Hokkaido, Northern Japan which is famous for squid. Every year in August the city gets together for the Hakodate Port Festival where residents gather in the streets to dance a wiggly dance known as the Ika-odori (Squid Dance).

The port city is also famous for Hakodate Shio Ramen noodles which uses sliced squid in place of Char siu, 叉焼 or 焼豚 (traditionally barbecued pork) as a ramen topping. Sometimes you may also find a live baby squid if you order a seafood bowl. In the videos below, baby squid are consumed as part of the meal.
