New gadgets in Japan this season

Living in Japan, you’ll know that every season there are new products introduced into the market and this autumn is no different.  In Fuji TV’s Mezamashi morning TV show, we see some new products including,  the new super thin  Sony Vaio X-series of notebook computers, , a small humidifier shaped like a tree – good for Japan’s dry winters with a leaf shaped remote control, a desk lamp that can be used to recharge USB gadgets, a  cute new memory card reader from Elecom, Elecom headphones shaped like plastic building blocks and transforming Transformer USB memory sticks.

Algorithm March videos

There are alot of folks like me who can never tire of watching the amazing Algorithm March from the kids TV Show Pitagora Suicchi (maybe its because I’m so uncoordinated that I marvel about be able to peform it one day!)

There are 2 types of Algorithm movements

Algorithm Taiso is the exercise movement while Algorithm Koushin is the march.

Personally I like the music from Taiso and the movement from Koushin

Ai Iijima Videos

Ai Ijima
Ai Iijima 饭岛爱 is a 34 year old media personality and former AV star. Her real name is Mitsuko Ishii and in her late teens, she appeared on late night adult TV game shows as a “T-Back girl”, one of the models wearing a skimpy thong. Her stage name was chosen by a fan survey.

She later entered into the Adult Video business and became a big star but quit by the age of 20. After this, she crossed over into mainstream television variety shows, one of the few “talent” so far to successfully make such a transition. She is now an established celebrity on Japanese television, appearing in travel, lifestyle, game shows, and quiz shows.

GalCir TV drama

GalCir photo
Sometimes Japanese dramas have the wierdest story lines. Galcir which stands for “GAL CIRCLE” is one of those.

This NTV drama which aired earlier this year is about Kogals (young women with very unique tastes in fashion, music, and social activity) and the “circle” (a type of club or organization) which they belong.

The drama centers in Shibuya where are a group of kogals are “para para” dancing in their “circle” called “Angel Heart”. The wierd part is when a Japanese cowboy from Arizona arrives looking for a girl named Imoto. Think of it like a fish out of water or Crocodile Dundee type story.

Athletic Japanese women

Check out these Japanese women competing in something similar to Fuji TV’s Viking: The Ultimate Obstacle Course or Fear Factor. Definitely goes against that misconception or stereotype that many foreigners have of Japanese women being physically weak and non-sporting.

Long Vacation Remembered

Long Vacation photo

It was 10 years ago that a hugely popular TV Drama called Long Vacation aired on Fuji TV, and launched the acting career of superstar Takuya Kimura 木村拓哉, (popularly known as “Kimu-taku”). The show also popularised the other actors Tomoko Yamaguchi, Yutaka Takenouchi, Takako Matsu, Ryoko Hirosue and Izumi Namori. The drama was about love and relationships and garnered very high ratings because of the compelling storylines. Monday nights became big TV nights as people rushed home to watch it. If you’re at all interested in Japanese pop culture, this is an enjoyable series worth watching.
Everyone who remembers the series will also instantly recognize the theme song “La La La Love Song” by soul singer Toshi Kubota.
