Did you know that the most popular menu item at Mister Donut ミスタードーナツ in Japan is? The answer is  Pon de Ring, ポンデリング which is a chewy textured doughnut which it was released in 2003 and total of 1,300,000,000 were sold by end of last year.

According to Mister Donut, the model of the Pon de Ring is Pao de Queijo, a popular chewy cheese bun in Brazil.  In Japan, there are various flavored Pon de Rings  available (the right one in the picture is the original, which is honey and sugar glazed, and the left one is muscovado (known as black sugar in Japan).

In Japan, Kowa pharmaceuticals is well known for its cute TV commercials for over the counter remedies for sore throats, mosquito bites etc.

Morinaga 森永  Choco Balls  チョコボール are one of the most famous chocolate candies in Japan. They are sold everywhere and even the mascot cartoon bird “Kyoro-Chan” キョロちゃん on the front of the box is well known in Japan.

Morinaga has advertised chocoballs and Kyoro-chan ever since they were invented. Kyoro-chan even had his own anime series 1999–2000 and movie (2001)

Gin no Sara 銀のさら is delivery sushi service run by Restaurant Express Co.   It’s been around for 44 years and they have a series of very entertaining TV commercials to catch your attention.

The soon to be tallest building in Japan will be the  Tokyo Sky Tree 東京スカイツリーwhich is slated for completion in the Spring of 2011.  Long discussed, the tower is being constructed by a group of six terrestrial broadcasters (including NHK) who will use it to transmit digital television signals.

When completed, the 634 meter tall tower will stand out in Tokyo’s skyline  and the tower’s observatory will be open to the public in the spring of 2012.

Construction has been ongoing for the last few years and you can view the building works via the webcam  here.

Tomomi Itano 板野友美 is the pretty and talented soon to be 19 year old  singer from Jpop group AKB48. Back in 2005, the Osaka born Tomomi (known as Tomochin) was chosen out of 7,000 auditioners to join the popular all girl AKB48.  She has featured in all the released singles and is part of unit A.

Tomomi has appeared in 3 TV commercials  including NTT Docomo (2006), Kirin Nuda by Kirin Beverage (2008) and a new one this month for  Ito-Yokado 株式会社イトーヨーカ堂 a Japanese general merchandise store (part of Seven & I Holdings Co) where she features in a traditional yukata and bikini for their 2010 Swimwear and Yukata fashion lines ー 恋水着 恋ゆかた. In September 2008, Tomomi Itano became a fashion model for the popular woman’s fashion magazine, cawaii and she has a recurring role on Japanese TV show Kamen Rider Double (仮面ライダーＷ（ダブル）.

Is hot Japanese lingerie model Jessica Michibata 道端ジェシカ single again?  According to various new British tabloid reports that will make most guys happy,  the pretty Jessica Michibata is no longer with race car driver Jensen Button ジェンソン・バトン.

According to British tabloid reports it was Button, 30, who decided to end the 18-month relationship with Michibata, 25, just after the Monaco Grand Prix due to problems in maintaining a long distance relationship, according to the Sun newspaper.

In another report, the Daily Mail said with her living in Tokyo and him all around the world to race, she was constantly flying out to meet him.

The relationship between the reigning world champion and his smoking hot Japanese girlfriend lasted for approximately 18 months and seemed to have led to wedding rings at one point, mid-way through last season. Although the two had planned to get married after Button’s title celebration in Brazil, they changed their minds this spring.

This year the beautiful Jessica Michibata has appeared in 3 TV commercials in Japan including Center-In Unicharm, Pure Gummy Kanro and Aquarius Vitamin Guard.  She also appeared as a model for Haute Couture designer Yumi Katsura’s wedding dress collection and released her  new book “JESSICA’S SECRET”  which  is a series of her essays that have appeared in the magazine GLAMOUROUS since 2007.

The book includes  her own “life philosophy,” how she learned English when she was 16, her travels, beauty tips and other “secrets” on topics such as fashion, love, body, hobbies and modeling, together with her private/ family photos and interviews.

Pretty 35 year old  fashion model and actress Chi Ling Lin 林志玲 リン・チーリン was in Tokyo recently to help promote the launch of 旅行ブランド Qualita クオリタ.  The 174cm tall Taiwan beauty who ranks well against Japanese models and is a graduate of the University of Toronto,  wore a sexy mini blue dress and spoke in simple Japanese.  She talked about her busy schedule, wearing comfortable clothes, not to forget a bikini when going to a resort and her ideal man being serious, having a sense of adventure and being filial.

Chi Ling Lin is no stranger to Japan having modeled here and having some Japanese friends. She has also appeared on  Japanese TV such as on  SMAP x SMAP and TV commercial for Casa Cube

Chi Ling Lin can also be seen in Fuji TV’s 月の恋人～Ｍｏｏｎ　Ｌｏｖｅｒｓ～ drama Tsuki no Koibito which airs Monday nights at 9pm.
