Like Shibuya gyaru gal fashion scene?  In the latest attempt to reproduce the success of  Jpop idol group AKB48 a new idol unit called Shibuya GAL’S is being formed.

The unit is being produced and led by the gal (gyaru) fashion model duo Yumachi & Aina  ゆまち ＆愛奈  which consists of Yuma Takahashi (21) and Aina Tanaka (21) both models for the fashion magazine Egg. After topping the Recochoku club music charts last year, they made their major label debut earlier this year and are releasing their debut album “QUEEN” this week.

They began holding auditions for Shibuya GAL’S last month, aiming to create a large-scale unit like AKB48. They received applications from 4,000 girls across the country from which they selected 22 girls  ranging in age from 14 to 20. Adding Yumachi and Aina themselves, the group has a total of 24 members.

Shibuya GAL’S will release their first digital single on August 4, titled “Ouenka! Agepoyo~.” In addition to their music, the group will be active as fashion models. Yumachi & Aina reportedly aim to expand the group to 48 members this fall.

Yumachi & Aina have started to appear in advertisements, most notably in commercials for the karaoke system DAM★Tomo. Along with other models they have formed a group called ‘DAM★Tomo Angels’. They’ve gradually begun to be featured in various other medias as well.　Yumachi & Aina appeared in the NHK program ‘東京カワイイTV / Tokyo Kawaii TV’ as trendsetters for girls frequenting Shibuya.

Rinpa Eshidan is a Japanese art crew made up of made up of Noiz-Davi, Daisuke Yamamoto, D.H.Rosen, Akari Sasai and XOLA. “Rinpa” is a word created by the founders of the group meaning “to bring people together, while “Eshidan” essentially means “art crew.”

Rinpa Eshidan main activities are performing in live-art events and creating videos of art in action. Instead of focusing on the finished project they believe the process of creation itself is where art comes to life.

They live somewhere between a finished piece that hangs lifeless on a wall, and the hours of planning before a work is actually created. They live in time-lapse bedlam, creating what is best described as Action Art, stroke after stroke, right before the eyes of an audience that watches captivated.

Rinpa Eshidan’s style is called “art-in-process” and with every performance and professional video the team does features members frantically painting, drawing and sculpting, sometimes in 2D, sometimes in 3 dimensions, expanding on each other’s contributions to form something vivid, new and breathing.

Nao Tamura is a Japanese and US based designer who recently won the Salone Satellite Award at Milan Design Week 2010 for Seasons, her functional kitchen and serving ware.  The plates are leave-shaped containers made of silica sand, which means that they can easily be rolled up.

She was inspired by Japanese customary traditions of using leaves as decorative objects in the presentation of food.  In the Spring, cherry tree leaves are used to wrap sweets. In Autumn, fallen foliage is used to decorate the table. Leaves are also used as dividers when presenting an assortment of dishes.

Pretty Ageha fashion model and entrepreneur Eri Momoka is the face of  “Tequila Balls” テキーラボール a type of  “jello shot”  that was created at the Tokyo Kabukicho bar “NASUKA”  in 2008.  Tequila balls are 20% alcohol and contain 1/3 of a shot glass worth of tequila each and currently available in orange, blueberry, yogurt, cassis and strawberry.

NASUKA’s main patrons are hosts and hostesses who like the Tequila Balls but one  regular who happened to be a model for the massively popular cabaret style fashion magazine, Koakuma Ageha wrote about the Tequila balls on her blog which brought a sudden surge in interest from around Japan.

NASUKA then started the Tequila balls to other local cabaret and host clubs and  eventually had to branch out into a production and mail order service that sells the items starting from 2,205 Yen for a set of 10.

By November 2009, NASUKA had sold over 300,000 units of Tequila Balls and popularity of the the drinks continues to rise.

Japanese design duo Yuruliku (comprised of Bananao and Kinue Oneda) get their pleasure from designing the smaller things in life. Their prime focus is on stationary and one of  their latest designs is will excite design minded people.  Their new Green Marker grass shaped post-its serve as cute book marks.

The Green Market post its  come in three different sizes and cost 700 yen for 75 posts its.

Paramodel is an “art unit” formed in 2001 by Yasuhiko Hayashi (2001 Fine Art graduate from the Kyoto City University of Arts) and Yusuke Nakano (a Nihonga [Japanese-style painting] graduate from the same university). Their title comes from the combination of the words, “Paradise” and “model”, and the fusion of these two concepts is essentially the launching point of their creations.

In this artwork “tommy sushi,” Paramodel combined a toy truck called “tomica” and a food model of sushi. “Tomica” is a famous toy car series produced by the toy company named “Tomy” in Japan. Paramodel picked up a truck for this artwork among this toy car series. Truck is a vehicle which moves any immovable object loading on its back and its platform accepts any object. The sushi in this artwork is a food sample and not a toy. It is made of plastic and usually used in a restaurant’s show window to show their menus. Both the truck and the sushi are designed in details as a typical Japanese product.

Cost of this modern artwork is US$270.
