An amazingly rare and funny photo from the 1960s showing professional sumo wrestlers attending a local Undokai (School Athletic Meet, or “Field day”) to entertain the kids. Instead of wearing their traditional Mawashi sumo belts 廻し, the sumo wrestlers have dressed up as cheerleaders including bras and majorette skirts!!! Who says sumo is not entertaining?

From the 1986 TV variety show 今夜は最高! (WHAT A FANTASTIC NIGHT!) hosted by comedian and Jazz fan Tomori タモリ we have the show’s cast reenacting the popular Japanese fable Momotaro (Little peach boy).

Momotaro came to Earth inside a giant peach, which was found floating down a river by an old, childless woman who was washing clothes there. The woman and her husband discovered the child when they tried to open the peach to eat it. Read more...
