Morinaga’s Milk Caramel candy 森永ミルクキャラメル has been around in Japan since 1913. This popular traditional candy comes in different flavors including, Black Sugar Caramel, Azuki and Salt Caramel with seasonal flavors Chocolate, Strawberry, Chestnut, Almond, Sweet Potato and Coffee. There are also some limited geography flavors such as Banana (Tokyo area), Yogurt (Kanawaga area), Orange (Miyagi area) and Green Tea, Tea and Black Sesame (Taiwan).

When television advertising became popular, the first Milk Caramel candy TV commercial was aired in 1954 and updated ads still run today.

Between 1980-1983 wrestling great Hulk Hogan preformed in Japan in the New Japan Pro Wrestling league were he was nicknamed “Ichiban” (which translates to “Number One”). He toured the country from time to time over the next few years, facing a wide variety of opponents ranging from Tatsumi Fujinami to Abdullah the Butcher.

Hogan’s popularity in Japan was so great, he even recorded an album there, appeared on a manga comic and also later appeared on a TV commercial for Hitachi promoting their Bigflow air-conditioners.

Super slim and fit Japanese actress Kazue Fukiishi 吹石一恵 appeared as a sexy kickboxer fighting a giant carrot “Ninjin-kun” for this commercial for the Japanese Spo-Vege スポベジ (Sports-Vegetable) health drink.


Created by Asahi and Asahi Soft Drinks and Kagome and aimed at health conscious Japanese women who want to keep slim, this healthy sports drink introduced in 2009 is an alternative to the sugary caffeinated drinks available on the market.

The Yamaha Corporation ヤマハ株式会社 is a large multinational corporation in Japan best known for its musical instruments, motorcycles and sports equipment. The company was originally established in 1887 as a piano maker by Torakusu Yamaha. Here is a Japanese TV commercial featuring a cute little girl to promote their musical instruments.

Morinaga’s 森永製菓 Hi-Chew ハイチュウ is a soft chewy fruity-flavored Japanese candy popular in Japan and the rest of Asia. The candy was first released in Japan in 1975 and re-released in its current shape (a stick of several individually-wrapped candies) in February 1986.
