In 2008, Japan Post issued a set of stamps featuring Japanese anime and manga Patlabor, the Mobile Police 機動警察パトレイバー,. The set of 10 commemorative stamps was created by Headgear, a group consisting of director Kazunori Ito (Ghost in the Shell), mechanical designer Yutaka Izubuchi (RahXephon), director Mamoru Oshii (Ghost in the Shell), character designer Akemi Takada (Maison Ikkoku), and manga artist Masami Yuuki (Birdy the Mighty).

The ten 80-yen (about US$0.74) stamps feature the Ingram and Zero labor units as well as the characters Noa Izumi, Isao Ohta, Shinobu Nagumo, Asuma Shinohara, and members of Tokyo Metropolitan Police’s Special Vehicle Section 2. The manga received the 36th Shogakukan Manga Award in 1991. Read more...

Every year Tokyo’s Ueno Zoo’s “Escaped Animal Drill” is one of Tokyo’s oddest and most popular events.

Each year, zookeepers dress up as different animals and then make a break for it while up to 150 of their colleagues, together with police and emergency workers, practice how they would handle the situation if an animal really were to break loose.

Recent years have seen fake tranquilizer darts shot into fake zebras and rhinos, and nets thrown over men in monkey suits. The once-sober safety drill has now become such an attraction in its own right that other Japanese zoos have started to copy the idea. Read more...

Did you know that Japan has the largest catalog of Beatles records in the world yet the Beatles only ever once played in Japan in 1966?


At the start of their 1966 World tour before they toured the US, the Beatles arrived in Tokyo Japan on June 30th 1966 to play two concerts at the Nippon Budokan Hall (Martial Arts Hall). The Fab 4 arrived at Haneda airport, Tokyo at 3:40 a.m and stayed at the Tokyo Hilton where they occupied the Presidential Suite. Read more...

Junko Fukuda 福田淳子 is a pretty 26 year old Saitama gal who is a former race queen and gravure idol and currently lead singer for Jpop group Shanadoo.


She debuted in April 2002 as one of the 9th Generation Miniskirt Police gals and then became a race queen on the Super GT circuit in 2004.


Junko was then picked to join all girl Super GT/Avex Trax promotional group Vivace ヴィヴァーチェ consisting of Fukuda, Chika Shibuya 渋谷千, Kotomi Ban 番ことみ and Manami Fuku 福愛美 which eventually evolved into Japan-German, dance, euro-beat, parapara group Shanadoo in 2006 with the same girls except Marina Genda 源田マリナfor Kotomi Ban.
