From May 2008, this is either the best thing ever or your worst nightmare – Jpop super group SMAP performing with an ABBA cover band ABBA Gold (who are one of the most known ABBA-tribute bands in Europe)

The ultimate combination does a Special Medley (Mamma Mia; Gimme! Gimme! Gimme!; Dancing Queen).   Not for ABBA fans if you want to hear butchered lyrics but still fun to watch.

Not sure how they select who gets to be a guest on Fuji TV’s popular TV variety show SMAPxSMAP but if you’re a visiting foreign celebrity of some kind you have a good shot.  In this case even Paris Hilton and Victoria Beckham have been featured with the SMAP boys! From Japanese TV several years ago.

When Hollywood star Mischa Barton was last in Japan in 2008, she appeared in a Magician Zero comedy skit from Japanese TV show SMAPxSMAP.

Hollywood stars Cameron Diaz and Jude Law were in Tokyo in 2007 to promote their movie “The Holiday.”  They also made an appearance on Bistro SMAP with the lads from SMAP to promote their movie.

Harrison Ford not only appears on Japanese TV commercials, he’s appeared on Japanese TV variety show Bistro SMAP with the SMAP gang.

Richard Gere was another Hollywood celeb who ended up appearing with the SMAP boys on their hit TV variety show SMAPxSMAP.  Richard as always was a good sport on the section Bistro SMAP

TV Asahi’s Pussuma is a popular  late night TV show  in Japan that is hosted by celebrities Tsuyoshi Kusanagi 草彅剛 (of SMAP fame)  and Yusuke Santamaria ユースケサンタマリア (Yusuke Nakayama 中山裕介) .  In the show, as like many late night Japanese TV shows , the two  generally compete with other celebrity guests in wacky and hilarious competitions.

In the following clip, the teams compete to see who can glide closest to the breast of a lovely Japanese gravure idol – if they overshoot, they get an electric shock. Let’s see how Yusuke Santamaria fares:

From November 2009,  Bon Jovi were invited to do a special live performance on TV show SMAPxSMAP.   The stage wasn’t big enough for both Bon Jovi and SMAP so only Takuya Kimura of SMAP  (who is a big Bon Jovi fan) joined Jon on stage to sing ” We weren’t born to Follow”  and “It’s my Life”
